Tanzhe Temple

Tanzhe Temple
Tanzhe Temple

Tanzhe Temple is located in Mendougou District. Because of the Dragon Pool at its rear and the Zhe trees cudrania tricuspidata on the hill, it has been popularly known as the Pool and Zhe Tree Temple, or the Tanzhe Temple. There was a common saying that "First there was the Tanzhe Temple, then came Beijing:"

The existing architecture in temple was constructed in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and visitors can also appreciate pagodas of the Kin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Legend has it that the two "Emperor Trees" by the Hall of Three Sages, which were planted in the Liao Dynasty, are more than 1,000 years old.
