Women
in China
Women
in china enjoy equal rights men in all aspects
of life-political, economic, cultural, and
social. The government protects the rights
and interests of women by applying the principle
of equal pay for equal work and by training
and selecting female cadres. Marriage, motherhood,
the family and children are protected by
the government. Any violation of the freedom
of marriage is prohibited, as is the maltreatment
of women. Through such policies and laws,
women are encouraged to develop dignity,
confidence, and self-esteem.
The government places great
emphasis on choosing and training female
cadres. Since the adoption of the open-door
and reform policies, many women have taken
leading posts in the Party and the government.
Numerous women entrepreneurs have emerged
and have become a vital force in China's
effort to reform and modernize. Women have
made important contributions in various
fields, including industrial and agricultural
production, science, culture, education,
and health care. Thus, the expression that
"Women hold up half the sky "
has been extensively used to praise the
role of women in China today.
The
All-China women's Federation is a patriotic
organization under the leadership of the
Communist Party. The federation consists
of women from all ethnic backgrounds who
support socialism and the unification of
China. It serves as a bridge between the
Party and the government and China's women.
China has also taken an
active role in international women's activities
sponsored by the United Nations. In accordance
with China's foreign policy of peace, it
has strived to develop friendly exchanges
and cooperation with women from all over
the world while making efforts to realize
the goal of worldwide equality between men
and women ,women's participation in social
development and the maintenance of world
peace.
